ASD Las Vegas August 9th – 12th 2009 Wholesale Trade Show

I know I should have posted about this earlier but better now than never

The ASD Trade Show is a MUST if you are serious about your wholesale business and are serious about meeting some wholesale suppliers

The time to start stocking up for Christmas is coming soon so I suggest making your way to this show (I am in no way affiliated with them) but I have been to the show a few times and have made some of my best wholesale supplier contacts at this show

Note that ASD is part of Nielsen Business Media’s Merchandise Group so by no means is this one of those dinky trade shows, this is the real wholesale deal here

This is the way to make a fruitful relationship with potential wholesale suppliers for your business – Emailing some guy in China and expecting to receive exactly what you ordered is a far shot – The ASD show even has their own ‘CHINA BRAND’ area that will focus on all these things

I would love to be there but I will catch everyone at ASD East in New York in September

Few notes if you’re thinking of going to the show (may seem like common sense but you would be surprised by how many people don’t do these things)

1. Prepare beforehand

Whether this is done on your flight in or a week before sit down and think about a few things. Make some decisions as to what you are trying to get out of this show. Just looking to browse around see what’s new? Looking for new wholesale suppliers? Looking for those products that are going to be a Christmas BANG?
Take a look at how some of your products performed last year what sold what didn’t
Think about what your current wholesalers lack and what you may want to add to your roster – If you have 10 good wholesale electronics suppliers I am sure the 11th one isn’t going to benefit you much more – Be specific as to what wholesale products and what wholesale categories you are going to dive into

2. Move Quickly

Yes I know its VEGAS but don’t get caught up. Get up early get into the show and don’t be doing a slow waltz around the whole floor. Look at the maps, go where you need to go and meet the people you need to meet. All of these exhibitors will be busy as well so cover as much ground and meet with as many as quickly as possible, don’t save this for the last day. And please don’t drink too much and be hungover the next morning – Leave the pleasure for after the show is done

3. NETWORKING

Its like ASD is god and they are putting you in a room with ALL the people that will make your business flourish – USE IT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE. Get those new business cards printed, buy that new Zegna outfit, look sharp and be on the point – You never know who you will meet and what type of relationships you can form – First images ALWAYS count. Don’t be shy, speak to ANYONE & EVERYONE even if they are not an exhibitor you may find an industry partner with whom you can possibly work with in the future. Don’t get caught up about the new house in the hills you just bought, stay ON TOPIC

Oh and by the way, the economy IS definitely picking up, it wont be a slow Xmas like last year guaranteed
